Watch the Lovely Alpine A110 Tackle the Nürburgring

The A110 isn't an all-out track car, but it still looks like good fun on Germany's most famous circuit.

The new Alpine A110 might prioritize fun over outright speed, but that doesn't mean you can't take it to the track. You can even take it to the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Germany's Sport Auto magazine did just that, and put up a video of the car on track just for our enjoyment. In the hands of Sport Auto's head test driver, Christian Gebhardt, the A110 ran a 8:03.33, which by today's crazy standards isn't much to shout about, but still quick.

If you're ready to dismiss the A110 and its eight-minute- Nordschleife time, this probably isn't the car for you. By all accounts, the engineers at Alpine wanted to create an antidote to the more-is-better philosophy that defines so many of today's performance cars. So many new sports cars are far quicker than their predecessors, but not necessarily more fun in the real world. Alpine wanted to do things differently with the A110.

So, while it's fun to watch this car tackle Germany's most famous track, recognize that its lap time doesn't paint a full picture of the machine.
