The M2 is BMW's newest, hottest M car to date. It's a two-door coupe with good looks, a great straight-six turbocharged engine, and fantastic handling capabilities. The Macan Turbo, on the other hand, is an Audi Q5-based four-door crossover from Porsche, with all-wheel-drive and a twin-turbo V6. The two cars couldn't be more different, but U.K. publication decided to pit them against each other nonetheless.
While the average driver might not think these vehicles have much in common, their performance numbers are shockingly similar. Both cars have turbocharged six-cylinder motors, similar 0-60 times, and very close top speeds. In a straight line, then, they're quite comparable. But what happens when you throw some corners at them?
Steve Sutcliffe of Auto Express took both cars on a road course to see if the mini-SUV could really hang with the sports coupe. Unsurprisingly, the lighter and more performance oriented M2 sets a much faster time than the Macan. Sutcliffe stresses that the Macan shouldn't be disregarded, however, as it's a blast to fling around the circuit—even if it is a two-ton crossover.
