As the price of 3D printing becomes more inexpensive and accessible, more companies are investing in the technology. Divergent 3D is one of those companies, and to show the world what it's got, it's created the Blade: A 700-horsepower, mid-engined 3D printed supercar.
The Blade is an engineering exercise designed to show off what kind of stuff Divergent 3D is capable of. The car looks like something straight out of Minority Report, with tandem center seating and beautiful proportions.
Power comes from a mid-mounted bored and stroked 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, sending power to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission. The Blade has a dry weight of just 1388 pounds, meaning an extremely good power-to-weight ratio.
CEO Kevin Czinger brought the Blade to to show it off and let Leno get behind the wheel. Watch the two ride tandem through the streets of L.A.
