If you aren't into German touring car racing, you might not be familiar with the HWA Team name. The company was set up by Hans-Werner Aufrecht in 1998, who you may know as the A in AMG. The whole operation started out when Mercedes-Benz needed Aufrecht's help to develop the CLK-GTR for GT1 (using a McLaren F1 GTR chassis), road-legal variants for homologation.
Since then, HWA has become the world's most successful DTM team, specializing in development and engine production. They also build AMG's GT3 and GT4 cars, and now it's time for them to do their magic with the Apollo IE.
In order to finish off the V12 hypercar's dynamic development, HWA will focus on safety, reliability, powertrain calibration and thermal dynamics, bringing their engineering expertise and high-tech facilities to the table. Once finished, the Apollo Intensa Emozione's production will be limited to ten units, with first customer deliveries "expected to commence in 2019."
‘Race to Road’ strategy indeed.
