Ford is looking for your sound input as it develops the noise that will be artificially created for the upcoming 2012 Electric Ford Focus and other future electric vehicles. Ford sound engineers are turning to the to solicit listener responses to four sample sounds.

With the inevitable growth in the number of electric cars on the road there is increasing concern that the silence generated by electric vehicles could be deadly for pedestrians in urban environments. To this end, President Obama has signed a law that would make it a requirement to add a sound-generating device to all electric and hybrid vehicles by 2014.
It's going to be fascinating to see what creative sounds appear on future electric vehicles. Hopefully a Ford will sound different from a Chevy and a BMW will still be subtly different from an Audi. I trust an electric Ferrari or Porsche will still enjoy their own truly unique sounds. It'll be horrible if the government mandates the same sound for every electric car. Here's a dumb question: What do you want your electric car to sound like?
