The Toyota Century GRMN Is All Sorts of Great

Even if it only exists as Toyota President Akio Toyoda's personal one-off, for now.

If making a sporty model of the most stately Toyota is wrong (it is), I don't want to be right (I'm not)

Bad phone images of a mysterious Toyota Century 'GR Sport' mule have been circulating for days. The definitive proof soon followed from Toyota President Mr. Akio Toyoda himself, how decided to roll up to a regular press conference in Tokyo, chauffeured in the white Century GRMN mule.

As the Japanese , Akio has been talking about the possibility of a hotter new Century before, and with the GRMN brand getting more and more important for Toyota, nothing seems to be off the table.

Toyota just built a new Supra, optimized for engine swaps and open to further weight-shredding. Led by Tommi Mäkinen, the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is currently leading the WRC Manufacturers' Championship, and the program has already spawned a hot hatchback, the supercharged Yaris GRMN. Toyota also wants to build a new Celica or MR2 to go along with the Supra and the 86, and is already on track with its 1000 horsepower, LMP1-inspired hybrid hypercar.

The Century GRMN mule appears to have blacked out brightwork, a front splitter, a small carbon rear spoiler, aftermarket alloy wheels, white brake calipers and aggressive Yokohama Advan tires.

Akio San told local reporters that he was "told not to drift it," and that the car has development parts on it, so he cannot elaborate further.

Which is the equivalent of saying "I felt like pulling a Gianni Agnelli."
