Porsche loves a special edition, and rumor has it, there's a new one coming to the mid-engine lineup: A 718 Cayman T, with a handful of lightweighting features.
, which claims that Porsche is just wrapping up a new 718 Cayman T that will use thinner glass, fabric interior door-pulls, sport seats, and perhaps a block-off plate where the stereo would go. The stripped-down interior would likely add up to around 45 lbs of weight savings, augmented by a standard Sport Chrono package and sport exhaust. AutoExpress surmises that the 718 Cayman T would use a slightly-uprated version of the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four-cylinder found in the Cayman S and GTS.
We can look to the 911 family to see how a Cayman T would fit in the lineup. The 911 Carrera T is the lightest version of the vehicle, midway between the Carrera S and Carrera GTS. We presume that the 718 Cayman T would do the same, slotting between Cayman S and Cayman GTS (shown above in blue) with, likely, a $70,000 price tag.
We also presume that the T designation would not extend to the drop-top 718 Boxster, as Porsche shares the T badge only with its most pure offerings. Expect the 718 Cayman T to arrive soon, as this generation of Porsche's mid-engine sports car nears the end of its life cycle.
