Update 12/12/18: This article has been updated to include a clip of a similar-sounding Boxster test mule spotted on the Nurburgring.

Seeing prototypes test on the Nurburgring is always cool, and these latest videos featuring a pair of unique Porsche 718s is especially interesting for a number of reasons.

On the Cayman, the exhaust exits are unique to this car—all Caymans and Boxsters have center exit tips, but the one shown here is sporting separated tips, not unlike the design on the 911's sport exhaust. It also sounds a bit different than the production 718 out today—perhaps this is Porsche tuning the sound in an attempt to appease those who miss the naturally aspirated flat-six cars from previous generations (though that's just speculation at this point).

The Boxster looks unchanged from the production version, but shares the Cayman's unique exhaust note. It's hard to tell what sort of engine is creating the sound, but if we had to guess, it sounds like something of the six-cylinder variety. (Currently, you can only buy the 718 with a selection of turbo-four engines). Obviously, we won't know for sure what Porsche has in store until an official announcement is made. For now, we'll just have to listen to these cars and wait patiently.
