Ginetta Is Still Around, Will Build 600+ Horsepower Carbon Fiber Supercar

The small British sports car manufacturer says its supercar will come with a carbon fiber tub and body, an N/A V8 designed and built in-house, and racing aerodynamics.

Since 1958, Ginetta Cars has been the preferred racing and road car manufacturer of every budget-conscious enthusiast. Similar to TVR and Lotus, this small British brand has a long record of beating bigger guns with smaller ammunition.

Today, Ginetta still follows the recipe of mass-produced engines in clever composite bodies, but Le Mans class-winner Lawrence Tomlinson's company also produced a carbon fiber LMP1 prototype, a hardcore GT3 car, and a GT4 variant that became an all-time best-seller at over 400 units. That's a remarkable production figure for a race car.

Now, combining all this racing and manufacturing know-how, Ginetta wants to take its business to the next level, starting with a rather serious proposition:

A supercar from a top-tier motorsport manufacturer, with highlights including a carbon fiber tub chassis, full carbon body, a race-derived 600+ horsepower naturally-aspirated V8 alloy engine, designed and manufactured in-house, a sequential gearbox, and a race-derived aerodynamic package.

This spec-list is strikingly similar to that of the recently launched Brabham BT62.

Self-designed naturally-aspirated V8s don't exactly grow on trees these days. Even Cosworth had to go back to an old Formula One engine concept to create the Aston Martin Valkyrie's amazing N/A V12. That turns Brabham's 5.4-liter motor into bit of a mystery. Of course I do want to believe in a V8 SuperCars-sourced Ford development engine that became a globally-legal 5.4-liter unit after being modified in England's most futuristic shed, but that's my problem.

However, Ginetta's V8 seems easier to decode. The G55 GT3 car used a Nissan VK45 before an upgrade put a Chevy LS3 in it. Both VK and LS V8s can produce well over 600 horsepower in naturally-aspirated form, especially developed and built by Ginetta's racing division. Now, all we need to do is guess the rest:
