Before watching the video, let's go over what we know about the Ford Focus RS that will be sold in both Europe and the U.S., gleaned from trusted insiders. First of all, forget about FWD: the Focus RS is getting a brand-new AWD system—a performance-oriented version that should skew towards a 50-50 front/rear bias instead of the front-oriented system currently available on Escapes and the like. Later it will spread to other Ford and Lincoln products.
Second, it'll get a high-output 2.3-liter EcoBoost that we're hearing will exceed the output of the EcoBoost Mustang, at 310 hp. That should put it in the 325-350 hp range. If you're breathing heavily at this point, we don't blame you.
Ken Block is the man hooning this prototype. We know this because our friends at thought to eyeball his Instagram feed. Good thinking.
Lastly, we thought this car was going to debut in Geneva, and it still might. But Ford's Mike Levine, and this video, agree that February 3rd should be marked on your calendar. Smart money is on photos and maybe specs being revealed then.
We still might not get an in-person look at the car until Geneva—but until then, watch Ken Block rock the prototype:
