BMW's lovely M2 hasn't even been on sale for a year yet, but there are already rumors of a more hardcore version, dubbed the M2 CS. We've seen videos of a camouflaged M2 testing at the Nürburgring, and now it seems we know when this CS will arrive.
A timeline for the M2 CS by user ynguldyn, who claims to have anonymous sources at BMW. Ynguldyn says the M2 CS will arrive in 2018 for the 2019 model year, and will use a detuned, 400-HP version of the M3's engine.
Previously, we reported that in addition to a power boost, the M2 CS will shed weight with the help of carbon fiber. This car is also rumored to use the name CSL, recalling the BMW 3.0 CSL that dominated touring car racing in the mid-1970s.
Based on ynguldyn's information, the M2 CS won't be in production for long, if BMW starts building it in 2018. The poster claims the 2-Series coupe will end production towards the end of 2020.
The M2 is easily one of the best cars BMW currently makes, so a more powerful version is a welcome addition. We'll just have to wait to see if BMW actually builds it.
