The Jaguar XE might not have won our most recent comparison test with the BMW 340i, but it still has a lot going for it. It offers sharp steering and a spacious cabin, is a joy to drive, and is arguably the best looking car in its class. Plus, the U.S. now gets the XE S, which makes an admirable 380 horsepower. But there might be an even more powerful version on the way to take on the M3 and the Mercedes-AMG C63.
What's even more exciting, though, is how the XE SVR will likely make its power. Auto Express believes it will get some version of the F-Type SVR's V8. Depending on the tune of the V8, the XE SVR would, at the very least, be on par with the 500-ish horsepower Mercedes C63 and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, and could have the full 550 horsepower which would be nearly 50 more than either one of those cars. Let's also not forget that the F-Type SVR sounds absolutely maniacal. We'll take an XE that sounds the same, please.
Granted, Auto Express didn't name sources to back up its claims, so we called Jaguar. We were told that because its V6 and V8 are the same size, the V8 could hypothetically fit in an XE SVR. So it could easily work.
And considering how much we enjoy the F-Type SVR, we'd very much like to see the XE get a similar treatment.
