Fisker has sold around 1000 of its luxury-exotic series hybrids, though not without hiccups. Problems with its A123-supplied lithium-ion battery pack led to a recall. Other blows to the Karma included one car destroyed in a fire of unknown origin and another failing early in its visit to Consumer Reports. By contrast, our recent test car exhibited rather more durability.
Unlike the Karma's Valmet-Finnish assembly, the Atlantic (nee Nina) midsize is to be built in an ex-GM facility in Delaware. However, these plans are clouded by the U.S. Department of Energy having withheld some two-thirds of its committed $529 million to Fisker because of missed milestones of production and sales.
