What will it take to make a car hit 290 mph? The old Venom has already crested 270 mph in a run at Kennedy Space Center earlier this year. That car only had than 1200 hp and change from a twin-turbocharged 7-liter V8.
To squeeze out an extra 20 mph, John Hennessey has reworked the Venom something fierce. This is the Venom F5. According to , he will likely crank up the juice to something north of 1400 hp, aims to keep weight under 2800 lbs, and reworked the body to reduce drag to under 0.4 Cd.
At something more than $1.2M, it won't be cheap—but there's no cheap way to reach 290 mph. And there's not a lot of pavement to use to attempt that kind of speed either. Hennessey imagines the car will likely head to Bonneville for high-speed runs.
