Oh the weather outside is frightful...
Actually it's quite pleasant in Munich today, but they can let it snow inside Energy and Environmental Test Center.
Okay, it's a wind tunnel, but it's rare when they can cue the snow in one of these test cells. And it's odd to watch as the blinds are lifted and there's a straining against its bonds in a wind tunnel being blasted with snow.
In addition to having a temperature range of -4 degrees F to 131 above, humidity from 5-90 percent and a max wind speed of 155 mph, the tunnel can create snow.
What would you like, big damp snow or the really cold tiny bits that can seep into an engine compartment? It does it all...and saves on some of the expensive trips to the frozen north to test everything from door seals to engine compartment integrity.
It's weird standing there, watching the snow fly at the 5, accumulating...makes you think of skiing, not driving.
Stranger yet, they tell us there is a tunnel near Vienna that can do the same snow tests with a train. Love to see that.
We also would have enjoyed watching the "snow" tunnel engineers having a snowball fight to inaugurate the facility.
Nice to see people enjoying their work.
