On its 35th anniversary, a new version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI will be unveiled to celebrate the birthday of the world-conquering hot hatch.
The "Edition 35″ Golf GTI will sport 232 horsepower (up from 207 in the 2011 model), plenty of juice to bang the two-door forward with the quickness that GTI fans expect.
Apart from the extra muscle, there are also plenty of visual ways to tell the Edition 35 apart from a normal GTI. A shiny new front bumper design will draw the eye right away, while the "35″ signature logo will appear on the wing panels, door sill plates, head restraints and center seat panel. The Edition 35 is also fitted with sharp 18-inch wheels exclusive to this model.
The "Edition 35″ Golf GTI will be available for order beginning May 12, a few weeks before its world debut at the legendary GTI meet taking place in Wˆrthersee, Germany on June 1-4. Volkswagen will also show the 20th and 30th GTI anniversary editions.
No word yet on whether the Edition 35 will see American shores, as neither the 20th nor 30th anniversary editions did. In Germany, the Edition 35 will start at 30,425 euros (about $43,600 U.S.).
