Slideshow: 2009 Ford Flex >>
Ford is slowly making a comeback. The Flex has arrived at the perfect time, as fuel prices rise and full-size SUV sales slow. It's an economical way to transport a family of seven and look cool doing it. There is little off-road potential to this large front-wheel-drive wagon, but it can tow 4500 lb. and it drives like a large sedan — as it should, sharing its mechanicals with the Taurus. Although Ford hasn't announced any optional engines, we expect to see more fuel-conscious alternatives to be added next year. It's possible that we'll see a small 5-cylinder turbocharged engine like that in the new European Focus RS.
The Mustangs will celebrate their 45th anniversary with nary a change, as will the Fusion and Focus. Look for a turbo EcoBoost V-6 in the future, with good economy but the power of a V-8. Up Next: >
