How designers created the 2015 Ford Mustang interior

In the second video chronicling how Ford cooked up the 2015 Mustang, we head to the design studio with the car's interior team.

Ford design generally creates a bandwidth that stretches design across two extremes that would be appropriate for a particular vehicle and brand. For Mustang, the bandwidth was used to investigate how much design could be pushed while still being true to the iconic Mustang. Throughout 2011, hundreds of sketches were narrowed down to a handful of proposals that would be transformed into an initial batch of clay models for evaluation in 3D. In the end, three themes went into the final selection phase in early 2012.

Last week, Ford kicked off a new video series documenting the genesis of the 2015 Ford Mustang. In Episode 1, we joined the team as they worked out the car's exterior styling.

This week brings us the second installment, in which we follow the interior-design team as they discuss the themes they need to incorporate and watch as they tweak ideas on the fly using a clay styling buck.

It's fascinating to watch the artists at work, as they turn their sketches into three-dimensional objects that they can actually interact with. And as we've since learned, they got the new car's interior just right.
