When Hyundai announced its N performance sub-brand, it also announced an "N Line" trim level that would slot between its standard cars but under full-on "N" cars like the Veloster N. The company just revealed the Elantra GT N Line, the first of these mid-range performance models, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It seems pretty sweet.

Unlike most mid-tier performance-line trims of this nature, Hyundai actually took the time to upgrade the car mechanically. In addition to the badging, 18-inch wheels, and revised fascias, the car gets a new steering calibration, retuned shocks, stiffer engine and transmission mounts, and springs that are 14.3 percent stiffer at the front and 21.9 percent stiffer at the rear. The sway bars have been made thinner at the front by 1 mm and thicker at the back by 3 mms. This was all done to improve the way the car drives in addition to how it looks.

The only engine for the Elantra GT N Line is a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four making 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Manual buyers will be treated to Michelin PS4 summer tires measuring 225/40 18 on all four corners. Auto buyers will have to settle for Hankook all-seasons.

Inside, the GT N Line gets a unique leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather sport seats, a metal shifter with leather inserts, a different instrument cluster, and red contrast stitching throughout the cabin. There's also a bunch of available tech like navigation, ventilated seats, a power driver's seat, smart cruise control, collision avoidance, high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, and wireless charging.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line is currently on display at the North American International Auto Show alongside the company's new Veloster N TCR race car. Pricing for the manual N Line starts at $24,185, and $25,285 for the dual-clutch, including destination.
