One certainty with any new Lamborghini is that the company will make a number of special edition models. With the Gallardo, one of the favorites was the lightweight Superleggera and its drop-top companion, the Gallardo Performante. A Huracan Superleggera coupe is currently testing on the Nurburgring, but it seems like Lamborghini is already looking beyond that.
that Lamborghini has applied for a trademark on the Huracan Performante name, implying that it could build a more hardcore version of the Huracan Spyder to sit alongside the Superleggera coupe. It's not uncommon for automakers to apply for trademarks on names they have no intention of using, but given Lamborghini's history, we'd be shocked if a lightweight Huracan Spyder didn't materialize.
The Huracan Superleggera has been seen testing with a fixed rear wing, and more aggressive front and rear splitters than the standard Huracan. For reference, the Gallardo Superleggera and Performante both gained 10 hp over their standard counterparts, but more importantly, lost around 150 lbs. We've heard that the Huracan Superleggera could lose up to 200 lbs., but that remains to be seen.
We're big fans of the current Huracan Spyder, shown above, but we love the idea of more horses moving fewer pounds. Lamborghini is rumored to be planning the Huracan Superleggera's launch for 2017, so hopefully we see the Performante shortly thereafter.
